چکیده

In this paper we consider a stochastic server modeling a multiclass communi cation switch fed by a set of parallel bu ers The dynamics of the system evolve in discrete time and the generalized processor sharing GPS scheduling policy of is implemented The arrival process in each bu er is an arbitrary and possibly autocorrelated stochastic process We obtain a large deviations asymptotic for the bu er over ow probability at each bu er In the standard large deviations method ology we provide a lower and a matching up to rst degree in the exponent upper bound on the bu er over ow probabilities We view the problem of nding a most likely sample path that leads to an over ow as an optimal control problem Using ideas from convex optimization we analytically solve the control problem to obtain both the asymptotic exponent of the over ow probability and a characterization of most likely modes of over ow These results have important implications for traf

Large Deviations and the Generalized Processor Sharing Scheduling for a Two-Queue System

We establish the optimal asymptotic decay rate of per-session queue length tail distributions for a two-queue system where a single constant rate server serves the two queues using the Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS) scheduling discipline. The result is obtained using the sample-path large deviation principle and has implications in call admission control for high-speed communication networks.

Large deviations and the generalized processor sharing scheduling for a multiple-queue system

We establish asymptotic upper and lower bounds on the asymptotic decay rate of per-session queue length tail distributions for a multiple-queue system where a single constant rate server services the queues using the generalized processor sharing (GPS) scheduling discipline. As an indication of the tightness of the bounds, in the special case where there are only two queues, the upper and lower...

Large deviations for complex buffer architectures: the short-range dependent case

This paper considers Gaussian flows multiplexed in a queueing network, where the underlying correlation structure is assumed to be short-range dependent. Whereas previous work mainly focused on the FIFO setting, this paper addresses overflow characteristics of more complex buffer architectures. We subsequently analyze the tandem queue, a priority system, and generalized processor sharing. In a ...

A Skorokhod Problem formulation and large deviation analysis of a processor sharing model

Generalized processor sharing has been proposed as a policy for distributing processing in a fair manner between diierent data classes in high-speed networks. In this paper we show how recent results on the Skorokhod Problem can be used to construct and analyze the mapping that takes the input processes into the buuer content. More precisely, we show how to represent the map in terms of a Skoro...
